Urban Play: Intimate Space and Postwar Subjectivity, in The Intimate Metropolis

Essay explores the urbanism of Team 10 and especially of Alison and Peter Smithson through their use of images of playing children in the CIAM 53 Urban Re-Identification Grille.
The essay puts forward the argument that the aim of post-war urbanism was to modulate the subjectivity of sections of the population which were deemed passive through practices that were experienced as pleasurable and free.
